The study also looked at injuries to adults, reporting that they are more likely to die from motor vehicle crashes in Bexar County, Texas than from other kinds of personal injuries. Car, truck and semi-truck crashes are the leading cause of injuries for adults up to 64, and the second leading cause of personal injuries among those 65 and older, behind falls. The rate of adult car, truck and semi-truck crash injuries rose almost forty percent between 2009 and 2012, and the number of victims exceeded 1,000 in 2012 for the first time in many years. The study noted that alcohol or drug use was documented in 40 percent of car, truck and semi-truck crash injuries, and in 38 percent of motorcycle crash injuries. It also noted that speed and distracted driving were common in car, truck and semi-truck accidents.
