Update: Five Dead in Fort Worth Motorcycle Crashes This Week

Five people have died in motorcycle wrecks in Fort Worth this week.  As I wrote yesterday, three people, including an off-duty Fort Worth firefighter, were killed in two separate motorcycle wrecks on Monday.   Another person involved in one of Monday’s accidents later died at a local hospital.  On Tuesday, a motorcyclist was fatally injured in southeast Fort Worth.  Wednesday saw two more serious motorcycle accidents in Tarrant County.  The first occurred Wednesday evening in Haltom City, and the second happened Wednesday night in Fort Worth at northbound Interstate 35W at Northeast Loop 820.  The conditions of those involved in Wednesday’s accidents have not been disclosed by local authorities, though fortunately there have been no reported fatalities.  For more information on these accidents, click here.

With nice Spring weather upon us, more people will be riding their motorcycles on our local roads.  The spate of motorcycle accidents should remind all of us to practice defensive driving.  Motorcyclists should wear appropriate gear, including helmets, and avoid riding in potential blind spots.   Car and truck drivers should always be on the lookout for motorcyclists, keep a safe distance from motorcycles, and bear in mind that motorcycles can accelerate quickly.
