A seven year old Fort Worth boy recently drowned in an apartment swimming pool. According to a report by Fort Worth firefighters called to assist, the boy was playing outside his family’s apartment before getting into the swimming pool area. He was pulled from the swimming pool by Fort Worth firefighters, but he later died. This tragic outcome serves as a reminder that swimming pools are dangerous for children. There are many reasons why swimming pools result in injuries to children.

Common causes of Texas swimming pool accidents include:

• Inadequate pool maintenance;
• Improper, broken, inadequate or defective gates and fences;
• Defective swimming pool drains;
• Overcrowded swimming areas;
• Distracted or untrained lifeguards; or
• Improper pool decks.

Homeowners, hotel, motel and apartment owners must do everything possible to make sure that their swimming pools are properly secured and maintained to prevent serious personal injuries or even death from drowning.  If you or a family member has suffered a serious personal injury or wrongful death in a swimming pool accident in Texas, you may be able to seek compensation for your injury or loss.
